There is more than one name for the "pointing part" of your wand. My preferred term is the taper. The function is pretty easy to see; the energy of your will flows into the handle of the wand, up the taper, and out the point.
Options for Wooden wands
When you order a custom wand, choosing the "classic straight" option will give you the taper proper to that wand. Many of my wands have been designed with tapers that compliment the handle shape- or, perhaps, it's vice-versa! Of course, wands such as the Chandra or the Mechanistic will not take altering readily. The Myrrdin wand has a "javelin" shaped taper, and the Adhara has a rounded shapoe that always makes me think of the tall topiary trees at Versailles...
