These lovely rough textured pebbles come from an outcropping near Prescott Arizona, called Apache Leap. The legend tells of a band of braves who were forced off the cliffside there, and that the women who came for their bodies cried these black, smokey tears. Geologists tell us that the molten natural glass we know of as obsidian, was forced through a pumic-like mineral here. The super-heated material filled the air bubbles, casting these sweetly rounded shapes. Now, as the outcropping weathers, the Obsidian formations fall to the bottom of the cliff. Obsidian is an excellent reservoir stone, grounding and balancing. And visually, these black roundels, still showing remains of the white matrix- are so appealing!
