Osage is also called "Hedge Apple" and makes excellent hedges here in America, tough and tight, keeping animals in (or out) of the fields. It is prized by the Native American tribes for the long fiber that makes it the best wood for Bows. There is a fruit, ugly, knobbly, and inedible, that nevertheless has a bewitching and mouthwatering scent of citrus. The Bowmakers hunt for the trees in the fall, by the scent.
The golden color links this wood to Apollo, Lugh, and other Solar dieties. The mutability, and the bow-making qualities make this wood Mercurial, and the domestic uses as well as the delicate scent of the fruit link it to Hestia, perhaps.
