This odd and striking wand is 16-1/2 inches long. The temperamental Purpleheart wand will, occasionally, refuse to develop its Concord Grape hue. This wood gave me a blood red, instead. Nonetheless, the chatoyance, the light-throwing qualities of Amaranth are on profuse display in this wand.
Eleven equidistant rings are leafed in Copper, Silver, and 23 gold leaf. the interstices between are laquered black- truthfully, because the three metals looked gaudy and garish against the Victorian mauve of the wood- a little faded, a little fantastical. Since the handle is so long in proportion to the taper- you will find that your hand uses about half of that detailed area, the red taper springing forth from the black and metals.
I never intended this wand to have these proportions- but it all works!
A green malachite sphere is set in the base for a reservoir.
