I Just got some new Purpleheart wood to make wands from. This wood comes from South America, and it really is purple! It is also very dense and strong- in Mexico, it’s used to make the big beams for factories. It’s incredible to think of this exquisite violet wood holding up big buildings
The color of purpleheart will fade in time, to a warm brown- lovely, but not as amazing. If you use a wand of this wood, you must keep it out of the sunlight. I have a special UV-protectant finish that I use on my wands, that seems to do a fine job of masking the Sun’s fading rays. This sensitivity to the Sun tells me that the wood will be good for Fairy Magic; possibly a Fairy Godmother or two will ask for this wood!
You can see a picture of a wand cut from this wood on my newest page in my Book of Spells section; The Magic Of Woods
